Open Fires Open fires are hugely inefficient and will reduce the efficiency of a Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery system. Wood burning stoves with built in air inlets, where the fresh air is supplied through a duct and dampener, would be the preferred option.
Stoves Any stove with its own external air supply will not affect the efficiency of your Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery system.
Gas Fires - Fuel burning appliances must have a permanent external air supply. This means a vent in an external wall or a pre-manufactured air supply that can be ducted directly to the outside.
